1. CHECK WHICH SERVICES ARE COVERED BY THE ÖGK

We have summarized for you which benefits are covered by the Austrian Health Insurance Fund and which requirements must be met:

Contractual services:

  • Dental fillings made of amalgam in the posterior region

  • Plastic fillings in the anterior and canine region

  • Amalgam-replacing fillings for certain groups of people (e.g. with allergies)

  • Root canal treatments

  • Dental scaling by the dentist

  • Surgical interventions

  • Removal of teeth and tooth roots

Implants:

Implants are generally not paid for by the ÖGK, but there are exceptions if you ...

  • ... have a cleft lip and palate.

  • ... as a tumor patient you need rehabilitation in the oral cavity after an operation.

  • ... need rehabilitation after multiple jaw fractures.

  • ... suffer from extreme jaw conditions - e.g. total tissue atrophy of the alveolar ridge.

  • ... you suffer from aplasia in the area of teeth 1 to 5 in the upper or lower jaw.

Braces

In principle, braces are only subsidized if they are necessary (for both statutory and private practitioners)

The ÖGK considers braces to be necessary for the following malocclusions:

  • Tooth crowding

  • Enlarged overbite

  • Deep bite

  • Open bite

  • Lower jaw too large

  • Crossbite

You can find more detailed information about the individual misalignments here.

2. ARRANGE PAYMENT IN INSTALLMENTS WITH THE DENTIST

Many dentists are willing to allow you to pay for your treatment in installments. It's best to discuss this in advance and find out about your options.

Very important: If you pay in installments, make sure that you conclude your agreement directly with your dentist. Otherwise, your request may be forwarded to a credit institution via a service provider such as www.zahnkredit.at and you may take out a normal loan instead of simply paying off your installments directly. In this case, you should definitely compare prices with other loans.

3. TAKE OUT A BANK LOAN OR INCREASE YOUR OVERDRAFT FACILITY

If you have a regular income and your credit rating is secure, you can find out about a loan from the bank you trust. Depending on the funds available, you can take a lower rate with a longer term or a higher rate with a shorter term.

If you do not want to take out a loan or do not have the necessary creditworthiness (ability to pay), you may be able to get an increase in your overdraft facility. However, the disadvantage of this is the comparatively high fees.

4. CREDIT CARD WITH PARTIAL PAYMENT

Most credit card companies offer the option of partial payment by credit card. For customers who are new to this option, special fees often apply for a certain period of time, which may be lower than during the rest of the term. If you need more than 6 months to repay your dental debt, it is advisable to compare the average interest per month with a bank loan or other forms of credit.

5. PAWNING COLLATERAL

If you have an item that is valuable but you don't want to sell it, you can have it pawned with a pawn loan. Online pawnbrokers like CASHY will tell you straight away how much money you can get for your item and how much you'll pay each month. You can extend your tangible asset loan after a term of 1-4 months or repay the amount in installments. The fees are cheaper than paying in installments with a credit card, for example.

Example: You own old family jewelry worth 2,000 euros. This is how much you pay for a pawn loan:*

DESCRIPTION

FEE/AMOUNT

Loan amount

€ 2.000,-

issuance fee

€ 20,-

Custody fee (storage costs)

€ 2,-

Interest

€ 70,-

Total repayment

€2.092,-

*As of April 2024, please note that these figures are a snapshot in time. You can find the current fees either online with an offer for your collateral or clearly in the fee schedule.

It's smart. It's quick. It's helpful. IT'S CASHY.
